It's important for children to have many different opportunities to explore a particular art medium or material. Just as it takes encounters for a deep friendship to grow-many opportunities for conversation, for shared experiences, for storytelling-it takes many encounters for a child's relationship with an art medium to grow into easy familiarity.
Today we invited Tina, Jacob, and Eli in to the All Star room to join us for another encounter with our friend Clay. Everyone seemed to have their own idea or way of exploring with Clay! Some of the children worked Clay from stiff coldness to warm pliability by rolling, pounding, and stomping on it. Jay, Aaron, Sam and Samuel explored how it feels to lay their faces and knees on Clay, then lifted up their shirts and proceeded lay on top of Clay. Last but not least they made a variety of lines (long, short, zig zag, etc.) on Clay with their wet gooey fingers/toes. A few of the children wanted to keep their shoes on and explore Clay with just their hands...So they did just that!
We want to once again, thank Clay for a wonderful day!!!!!!!
