Inquiring Minds Want to Know

Yesterday we lit candles for the first night of Chanukah. The children were watching the flames of the candles when Jesse asked ,"Where did the wax go?" What an excellent question. The other children chimed in and asked what could happen to the candles. Today, to illustrate the concept of evaporation, we boiled water in an electric skillet so that we could see the water in the form of steam evaporate. When candles burn and the wax evaporates we cannot see it so we used water.
The children keep us thinking all the time, and we are grateful for that.

  1. Two things caught my attention with this post. First that this experiment came from a question the children asked and second, that you brought the equipment into the classroom to do it right there where everyone could get a good look.
