How Did The Holes Get There?
The Scientists had their first "homework assignment" - to collect some things from Mother Nature and to bring them in to share with our class. We saw lots of amazing things! Some of our friends found snow berries, red leaves, acorns, pine cones, branches, eucalyptus, flowers and even a real bird's nest.
Barbara found a piece of birch bark, but it had lots of round holes in it. We wondered how the holes might have appeared there, and we came up with some great theories:
Jayden - birches have holes
Matthew - because of scissors
Naomi - people made something pretty out of it
Lucas - maybe a kind of bird made holes in it
Alison - maybe a squirrel ate it
Noah - a woodpecker, trying to get a worm
Rebecca - maybe it was a kind of bird, a woodpecker building a nest, did it by mistake
Daniel - woodpeckers go into trees to get food
Jake - it may be an ant place, and the ants made holes to get into the tree
Jeffrey - an ant hit a rock and it hit the tree bark
Alex - ants get in and out of the tree using their claws
Jonathan - because of a woodpecker
We are going to be working with these bounties from Mother Nature for a while. Wait till you see some of our creations!
