special visit
Rabbi Jay came for a visit to tell us the story of Hanukkah. How we as Jews should be very thankful that our brave ancestors, the Maccabees, stood up to King Antiochus. The King did not want the Jews to practice their religion but brave Judah Maccabee and his brothers fought back. Rabbi Jay also taught us a wonderful Hanukkah song using our fingers. Here are the words of the first verse so hopefully your children can sing it to you. " In a window where you can see the glow from my menorah on newly fallen snow. I will light one little candle on the first night of Hanukkah." You keep repeating the song till you get to the eighth night.
Rabbi Jay also asked the children"what happens on Hanukkah?" Jake said: "We get to eat gelt." Becca said: "We get presents."
Alex said: We light the Menorah." Lucas said: "We play dreidel." Naomi said: "We eat latkes." Alison said: "We bake cookies." Jayden said: "We give pajamas to the poor people." Daniel said: "We get presents." Jeffrey said: "He gets lots of gelt." Noah said: "He plays with his new toys and his brother." Jonathan said: "He wraps presents."
We also "lit" our classroom Menorah and sang the 3 blessings since it was the first night of Hanukkah. We hope you all can join us this Shabbat in the Sanctuary at 11:10 to watch your children light the temple Menorah.
